28th Sunday in Ordinary time, Year A by Rev Fr. Donatus Pallu

Readings: Is 25:6-10a,Ps 23,Phil 4:12-14, 19-20,Mat 22:1-14

The first reading of today presents to us a God who is a Great Provider.

Humanity will always be in need no matter how rich we are. It is only God who can truly satisfy us.

The oracle of the Prophet Isaiah assures us of a sumptuous  banquet to be prepared by God for all peoples.

God, knowing perfectly well that it is only death that can disrupt this rich banquet, will vanquish death so that the banquet continues to eternity.

Beloved, when God begins to provide for us all our needs, He will also secure our lives so that we enjoy all his endowments to the fullest.

God, the Shepherd described in Ps 23, will not allow his flock to be in want. He will lead us to the grass that is ever green. He will lead us to the streams that never runs dry. He make restore our souls always and guide us as we traverse the death valleys of this life.

What is our excuse?

What excuse could a person give so as to decline an invitation to a Royal Banquet?

A Royal Banquet was the best function to have the best of meals, drinks, music and dance. I would not miss it for all the tea in China.

Beloved, surprisingly, people will choose to go to their farms and their businesses than to come to the Lord. I believe we are also doing the same.

From childhood, we have been told how heaven will be like and what we must do to get there, but believe you me, we think we have better places to go.

If you wake up on a Sunday and, for no good reason, find yourself in a place other than the church, then know that you prefer other things to the heavenly banquet.
