The Father Thomas Alan Rooney Memorial Hospital in Asankragua on Monday, September 7, received a set of donated items from The African Foundation for Pre-mature Babies and Neo-natal Care (AFpnc). The donation was geared towards the improvement of healthcare for pre-term, sick and small babies.
The difficult situation faced by the facility was highlighted by the famous news portal, Joynews some months ago after their attention was drawn by a staff of the hospital.
The items were donated by Ms Selina Bentum, the Executive Director of the Foundation. She emphasized that , they hope the embrace warmers donated will go a long way to help the facility deal with their challenge of having babies born pre-term, sick and small.
Embrace warmers helps maintain the body temperature of premature babies and babies who are born with a lower weight.
She also stressed that, as a mother of a pre-term child herself, she understands what it means for a born child with such complications to fight for his/her life, hence the reason for starting the Foundation.
Dr Steve Pampari, the medical superintendent who received the items on behalf of the Hospital and Mr Ernest Abeka Aidoo, the chairman of the hospital board, expressed their delight and gratitude to the foundation for supporting the facility.
The Fr. Thomas Alan Rooney Memorial hospital was built in 1954 and managed under the Diocesan Health Service of the Catholic Diocese of Sekondi-Takoradi . It serves as a referral center for some towns such as Enchi, Samerboi and other catchment areas.
