The Apostolic Administrator of the Catholic Diocese of Sekondi-Takoradi, Very Rev. Fr. John Baptist Attakruh, has commissioned a six- unit classroom block built by Africa Action, a German based NGO for the Catholic Special Vocational School in Fijai in ceremony organized at the School premises on Thursday, 24th September, 2020.
In his address, Very Rev. Fr. Attakruh thanked the NGO for supporting the school with the classroom unit. He emphasized that the Church valued education, hence the collaboration with government to ensure education is accessible to as many people as possible.
He charged the school management to commit to the maintenance of the new building and other facilities of the school. He further appealed to Africa Action, Societies in the Church, lay faithful and the general public to contribute to the furnishing of the school and encouraged parents and guardians to always support their wards with special needs.
Headmistress of the school, Ms. Rose Margaret Kwofie expressed gratitude to Africa Action NGO and appealed for more support from stakeholders, especially for infrastructure and security as the absence of a school wall exposed the school to unauthorised thoroughfare and questionable characters.
On her part, Madam Doris Adadey, representative of Africa Action NGO in Ghana, implored statkeholders including the Church, government and individuals to support the school in furnishing the new classroom block as well as provision of teaching and learning materials for the school.
She advocated for a high level of maintenance culture saying , this will encourage more people to support the school and implored parents and guardians to give their wards the love and care they would give their wards without special needs.
Africa Action NGO has been present in Ghana since 1978 and has contributed to the developmental needs of communities across the country.
The Catholic Special Vocational School was established by the late Most Rev. John Martin Darko in 2003 as a private school with 12 children. The aim is to ensure that children with special needs are able to acquire Vocational training to enable them become self-reliant.

Msgr. James M.Mesu, Rev. Frs. Gyatuah Boafo and Adu Yaw Ansah, Dame Theresa Arkhurst, (chairperson of the school board of governors), Ms Charity Baah, (representative of the Metro Education Director), Ms Rosemond Austin, (Regional Manager of the Catholic Education Unit), colleague staff from other schools, parents and students of the school.
